Selank is a synthetic heptapeptide analogue of the immunopeptide tuftsin, studied for anxiolytic, nootropic, and immunomodulatory properties in animal research models.
Selank (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg-Pro-Gly-Pro) is a synthetic heptapeptide developed at the Institute of Molecular Genetics of the Russian Academy of Sciences. It is an analogue of the endogenous immunopeptide tuftsin (Thr-Lys-Pro-Arg), extended with a Pro-Gly-Pro sequence to improve metabolic stability. Selank has been studied in Russian preclinical and clinical research literature for its anxiolytic and nootropic properties since the 1990s.
Selank is proposed to interact with the GABAergic system, modulating GABA-A receptor activity in a manner that produces anxiolytic effects in animal models without the sedative or dependency-inducing properties associated with classical benzodiazepine compounds. It has also been shown to influence serotonin metabolism and enkephalin system activity in preclinical studies, suggesting a multi-target mechanism of action on central monoamine systems.
As a tuftsin analogue, Selank retains immunomodulatory properties of its parent peptide. Research has shown modulation of interleukin expression patterns and enhancement of phagocytic activity in immune cell studies. These dual anxiolytic-immunomodulatory properties have made Selank a subject of interest for studying the relationship between immune function and psychological stress in animal models — an area of growing relevance in psychoneuroimmunology research. All NuvoTide Selank is supplied for in-vitro research use only.
